Now is the time to register for Summer CSA. Sign up here
This week is the final week for winter 2019 CSA. We are happy to report that asparagus is in the box – along with other great veggies. Boxes will have 6-9 items from the following list.
Beets with tops Carrots Broccoli
Scallions or spring onions
Fresh cut herbs
Yukon gold or red potatoes
A beautiful spring has unfolded this month as we begin our 25th year of farming in Rising Sun, MD. It is a simple pleasure to look out at the asparagus beds, the fruit trees and all spring veggies popping up in the fields. It is hard to realize how long ago we searched for the right location to put the pear & apples trees. Where to site the asparagus beds – realizing how those decisions would become permanent.
We have been busy March – enjoying the nice breaks in the weather to plant anew.
As we look back on our 25 years at the farm, we realize how blessed we are to have the privilege of working the land. We are also thankful for all of our friends and customers over the years. Many of our delivery sites will be celebrating milestones with us as we begin a new season.
We hope you will be joining us for summer CSA – there are a few spots left – here & there – including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation in Annapolis. Information for sign up can be found on our web site : www.calvertfarm.com . We also offer a payment plan thru the credit card payment via the website.

Roasted Broccoli- Spark Recipes
Mix together the olive oil, chili powder, garlic and salt in a bowl. Add the broccoli and toss to coat.
Place on a cookie sheet and roast for 20 – 30 minutes at 425 degrees. Broccoli should be browned and sizzling. It can be flipped halfway through cooking, but not necessary.
Spinach Dip- Epicurious
- 10 ounces frozen spinach
- 1 Knorr vegetable soup mix
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 loaf sourdough or pumpernickel bread
Mix ingredients well. Chill dip at least two hours.
Hollow out a round sourdough bread loaf or pumpernickel loaf and fill with the dip. Cut the middle section of the bread into squares and place around the dip instead of crackers.
